Book Corner: Lost and Found

16 January 2017

My book corner choice this month is: Lost and Found by Oliver Jeffers

Once there was a boy and one day he found a penguin at his door...

The first thing that grabbed my attention about this book were the unique illustrations. This is quite simply a beautiful book with a heart warming story of love and friendship.

A lost penguin shows up at boys door and what does he do? The boy decides that the penguin must be lost and so decides to help it find its way home.

They embark on a long and difficult journey to the south pole and have many adventures on the way. To pass the time, the boy tells the penguin stories. They eventually reach the south-pole and say a fond farewell.

But on his way back home the boy suddenly realises he has made a big mistake...

This is such a sweet, warm story of friendship simply, yet beautifully written with incredible illustrations. The story shares a poignant lesson about hanging onto our friendships and not letting them go.

This book became a firm favourite that we read over and over and over again with the boys... They have somewhat out grow it now but I still love to get it out occasionally.  The simplicity of the story and the beauty of the drawings draw you in and the warm feel of the book stays with you for a long time afterwards...

Lost and Found has also been made into a short film that is available on iTunes.
