Best of #a blogging good time May

29 May 2017

Dear friend,

Welcome to the "best of...#ablogginggoodtime."  Katie and I are overwhelmed by the number of fantastic posts linked up each week and in an effort to give something back I decided to run a monthly feature to showcase some of the brilliant bloggers who regularly link up with us.

The diversity of posts linked up every month is amazing...everything from recipes to poems and lists, heartfelt and inspiring stories to hilarious tales and brilliant tips. Thank you so much! I know that we both struggle every week to pick out a featured post.

This months featured posts include:

Am I exploiting my kids?

Have you heard about Victoria Beckham trademarking her daughter’s name?

Apparently she’s registered Harper Beckham, five, for use in branded products including perfume and make-up, as well as use in the entertainment industry.

Of course the red tops have had a field day, criticising Posh for exploiting her kids, and you’ve got to admit trademarking your child’s name does sound pretty ridiculous on the face of it.

But is she really exploiting her kids? Or is she actually being quite shrewd and protecting their future interests?

Either way it got me thinking. As a blogger, am I exploiting my kids? Because when you think about it there’s a fine line between the likes of the Beckhams and a blogger.
Am I exploiting my kids?

Its a difficult one and one that can get pulses racing. I think you have to decide and do what you are comfortable with. I do turn lots of things down that I feel don’t fit my blog but I am a SEN blogger so my purpose is slightly different to many other bloggers. I think it is deeply personal and only you can decide what you are comfortable with.

Open Letter To My Husband About Mother’s Day

To my darling husband,

As you know I am not a materialistic person.

Yes, I like nice things but in the grand scheme of things I would rather live in a nice house than have a Louis Vuitton handbag. I would rather go out and have a nice family lunch than buy expensive make-up. I would rather have a day out adventure than get my hair done. I would rather get a new Potted-plant than a bunch of flowers that will die. I will stop there.
With Mothers Day coming up soon (Sunday 14 May!! – it’s in your diary) I thought I would put together a few ideas of how I would like to spend Mother’s Day this year (p.s – we will be in Joburg already on the Saturday)

Oh god I loved this! You must read the absolute classic about selling the bike 😉 I think a lot of mums will have had the same wish for Mother's day, some quality family time.

This Blogging Bubble That We Live In

“You’re the only person I know who blogs,” said my sister on the phone the other day. She reads one or two blogs regularly and, with one being mine, she’s not making claims to being the biggest blog reader out there. But her statement got me thinking. Apart from the blogging community that I would say I’m in, I also don’t know anyone else who blogs. No one at the school. No one in my friendship group. No one that I’ve bumped into at the hairdressers or beauty salon (I know, I’m high maintenance). No one that my husband knows.

I guess, as a blogger, you just expect that everyone must know bloggers. Isn’t everyone blogging? It certainly feels like they are. The community is bustling, overflowing, clambering over, even. Infiltrating all aspects of our lives. Seeping out of our pores. We dream in blog post titles. Every scene we experience, we assess in terms of writability or Instagram worthiness. We chat to other bloggers all hours of the day and night. We meet up with bloggers. We chat blogging. We soak it up in its entirety. Sat at our laptops tapping away, prettifying our sites, wanting for nothing other than for feelings, emotions, to be poured into our words. So, with this in mind, how can we not know other bloggers in our community? It doesn’t stack up for us. We have become so all-consumed in the world of blogging. Surely, everyone blogs! Have we lost sight of reality?

Another brilliant post from the lovely Helen. I have to take a step back at times as I could spend every minute of my spare time blogging! But there is more to life.

Goodbye Year 13s

Farewell Year 13. I’ve been so busy of late I think I may have missed you growing up.

The realisation came to me as I watched your ‘leaver’s assembly’ last week. You put it together with such style, panache, good humour and grace that it dawned on me that at some point over the last few months (or even years) you turned from children into adults right in front of my eyes. And I hadn’t even noticed.

How very ‘unmindful’ of me.

Please forgive me. Please forgive the teaching profession in general. You see you may not believe it but we became teachers because we want the best for you. And the best for the other year groups we teach too.

I absolutely love this as a fellow teacher and a mum. Hayley is quite obviously a wonderful teacher. It is so sad that wonderful teachers like are feeling such pressure and that things that are amazingly important e.g. the skills we need for life, are being squeezed out of education.

I’d like to be able to promise my children I’ll keep them safe…always.

I’d like to wrap them up in cotton wool and hide them away on a remote island.

I’d like to tell them there are no baddies in the world, only good people.

I’d like to always hold their hand wherever they go.

I’d like to stop them from ever witnessing violence and abuse.

I’d like to protect their ears from hearing bad words, their eyes from seeing bad things.

I’d like them to never experience hate, loss or prejudice.

I’d like to keep them wrapped up in a soft quilt of love and protection.

And I would like to commend Susie for writing something so amazing! This is absolutely spot on! Brilliantly written and I loved it!!!

All our featured bloggers are free to put a special badge on their blogs if they wish!

Please show your fellow bloggers some support by sharing their posts across your social media, let's spread the love and give a little back to our wonderful community...
