Family Fun: Texel Weekend Part 2

26 April 2016

Dear friend,

welcome to part 2 of my post about our family weekend on the beautiful island of Texel.

On Sunday morning we wanted to visit the Lighthouse beach that is situated on the Northern tip of the island in Cocksdorp. This is a really unique and beautiful place with one of the widest beaches I have ever seen. We arrived early and had the beach to ourselves which was amazing!

After a sudden hail storm during which we took cover in the restaurant and warmed up with a hot chocolate with lashings of cream  we climbed up the lighthouse. The views from the top were spectacular!

The views are stunning, the sky seems to go on for ever here.
The boys loved climbing the lighthouse and looking out at the amazing views on each level. The top section is open so not for people who are afraid of heights!

We spent the rest of the day driving around the island and exploring. We visited Den Burcht one of the biggest towns (there wasn't a lot open on Sunday) Oudeschild, with it's beautiful harbour  and the ice-cream farm that uses real robots to milk the cows.

From here you can take a boat trip to see the seals in their natural habitat.

The big lad was happy when we made a stop at the ice-cream farm.
We finished the day with a return visit to De Koog (which was open on Sunday) and had a little mooch around the shops. Little man bought himself an enormous seal with his pocket money. We couldn't resist returning to the beach for a blast of sea air before the journey home. It was a brilliant day for a spot of kite flying and the perfect end to our weekend.

A final visit to the beach.

What an amazing place!

Using up that energy before the drive home.

Please take a look at my photo montage of part 2 of our visit to Texel.

If you are visiting Texel and want more information about what you can do then check out their WadsApp. It provides daily tips for trips, events, activities and ideas on the best places to go. It also has information on Texel culture: the dialect, interesting facts, history and tall stories. The app also suggests cycling and walking routes, gives bird descriptions and sounds and you can make a timeline to remember your visit.

I would highly recommend a visit to this picturesque island.
